What we like about Trung & Tuyen’s wedding is that it’s simple, genuine and filled with good vibe. In fact it has been a long time since I shot a wedding that felt like I was just tagging along like a cool uncle with a camera. It’s probably so very true because I was also invited as their guests, together with my wife and kids who also attended that evening. Trung & Tuyen is like our little siblings from another mother. We hang out every weekend and they would sleep over at our place. So, it was actually quite cool being their wedding photographer and guest at the same time. I got to shoot my cheeky daughter who was their flower girl.
So what can I say about Trung & Tuyen’s traditional Vietnamese wedding? Lots of fire crackers for sure. In fact, I think they managed to secure a 50m-something roll of big bang from a secret local dealer. It felt like we were in the middle of Lunar New Year Eve back in the days, just when the bride’s family arrived to the groom’s house for the tea ceremony. Tuyen looked stunning in her Vietnamese “ao dai” when she made appearance to the groom’s family. The traditional tea ceremony finished with another bang of fire crackers to part their guests.
Then the bridal got ready for the locatio shoot. It was a hot day with 30-something degree forecast so we thought it was best to have our photos done at the Queens Park in Moonee Ponds for its beautiful lake and lots of tree shades.
The reception was held at the Manor on High in Epping, a European style wedding venue and quite popular in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne. I really like the water feature in front of the entrance so we managed to sneak out during the night and had some more shots with the couple there. It was a little tricky as our groom is half drunk but I think we nailed the shots.
